Pupils at Wycliffe College enjoy life in a safe and secure countryside campus set over 52-acres on the outskirts of Stonehouse in Gloucestershire, just 90 minutes from London.
The college successfully blends the traditional and the modern, not only with its striking architecture but also with its broad curriculum and forward-thinking ethos. It offers co-educational day, flexi and full boarding options and caters for pupils with a wide range of abilities from diverse backgrounds. Wycliffe is a pupil-centric environment where individuality is encouraged and respected. Academic Development
The broad curriculum offers 20+ subjects at GCSE (including business, computer science and Japanese) and 28 choices of courses post 16 with three BTEC options, ACT and US SAT university entrance preparation. International pupils can follow the pre-A Level one year course which offers GCSE – equivalent study whilst boosting English skills. Small class-sizes provide each pupil with the encouragement to reach their full potential. The College offers a tutorial programme, rigorous progress tracking and support for SEN and gifted pupils. One in eight pupils achieved three of more A/A* grades and one in six achieved at least two A grades in 2018 A levels.
Pastoral Care and Boarding
Wycliffe operate a house system which provides every pupil a space to all their own; where they can work and socialise. There are eight houses for years 9 to 13, including a mixed Sixth Form House. Each house has its own character and celebrates the diversity of its residents. The school promotes a sense of community and team spirit and offers a high level of pastoral care. That feeling of belonging is evident in all the House Competitions, whether it is House Drama, House Song or Inter House Quiz Night. Each house is led by a houseparent who is supported by a team of staff and tutors. The house are an excellent environment for recreation and study; all have junior and senior common rooms and some are equipped with saus and table-tennis and pool tables. Boarders benefit from supervised prep, evening activities and a host of weekend excursions.
Extra-curricular & Personal Development
The school is med after John Wycliffe a 14th century philosopher whose attitudes of independence and ‘pioneering spirit’ is what are school values are based upon. It believes that education is more than just academic lessons and instead involves developing the whole person. The school encourages its pupils to flourish and embrace their futures as global citizens.
As part of its extra-curricular programme, Wycliffe offers over 70 clubs and activities; including beekeeping, rowing, robotics and basketball. Through sport the school offers something for everyone, whether competition level, skill development or recreation. The Wycliffe Advanced Sports and Performance Programme (WASP) and the elite Squash Academy cater for talented athletes, whilst co-curricular activities include fencing and modern pentathlon. The College benefits from cricket, rugby and all-weather pitches, a swimming pool, squash courts, gym, access to equestrian facilities and a boathouse with access to 30km of still water.
