Basic Information & Location
Located in the West Midlands, Wolverhampton and established in 1863. Significant expansion took place after the School bought Tettenhall Towers, a Grade II Special Listed building in 1943. Overseas pupils first joined the School in the 1960s and girls entered the Sixth Form in 1969. The school has been fully co-educational since 1982.
Academic Development
Starting from Year 9, Business and Electronics are introduced, EAL is offered as a specialist subject. With the use of Cambridge CEM assessments programme, students will be taking MIDYIS in Year 7, YELLIS tests in Year 10, and ALIS tests in year 12. The college also provides academic supports towards students from Nursery to Year 6 and follow up in Senior School, focused on one-to-one and small group interventions. Specialist teachers use a range of tests and methods to assess pupils with a wide range of needs identified by parents or classroom practitioners, and hence built a personal ‘One Page Profile’ that identifies the student’s skills, strengths, needs and the best strategies to support them in class, which is shared with all their class teachers.
For sixth form students, support and guidance is given from all staff and in particular from the House Tutor, Personal Tutor and Head of Sixth Form who remain in close contact with students throughout their two years in the Sixth Form. Including sources of advices, guide towards UCAS system and preparation for entry of universities. Pre A-Level course is available for 16/17 years old students to undertake intensive English language teaching and to sample some of the subjects that can be chosen for A Level study. Pre-A Level pupils receive at least 30 programmed hours of lessons each week, 7 of which will be intensive language lessons. Also, a full Games programme and a Pre-A Level Science Programme will be taught.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
Including two boarding houses, School House (boy’s boarding house) and Thorneycroft House (girl’s boarding house), both located within the School’s grounds. The School House offers a range of single, twin and fantastic junior dorm rooms. These are complemented by a common room where you will find a games area, cinema zone, chesterfield sofas and a beautiful kitchen. Both boarding houses’ heads are staffs of Tettenhall College, ensuring the safety and comfortable boarding life of students. Boarders’ Outings will be held on specified days throughout all 3 school terms which offers various activities and sites visiting for boarders.
Extra-curricular & Personal Development
The school provides a wide range of extra-curriculum activities to students whose study in both Prep School and Senior School, including performing arts, sports and music etc.
For Prep School students, an unique Forest School curriculum is held for the students to explore the ancient woodland where Tettenhall College is positioned. Children are stimulated by the great outdoors and the Forest School activities.
For Senior School students, a national scheme – Duke of Edinburgh (which Tettenhall College is the Directly Licensed Centre) can be joined to equipped themselves with invaluable skills for life and work. Also, a longer Enrichment Session is provided for them to enjoy a wide range of ECAs, including Climbing, Horse riding, Book Club, etc. Lastly, the students can cooperate with The Charity Committee to organise different activities like cake and book sale, and sporting competition.
