Basic Information & Location
Taunton School was founded in 1847 and is one of the top co-educational independent day and boarding schools located in the South West. Children aged 2-18 years live and learn at a campus situated on a stunning 50-acre site.
School Motto
Taunton School aims to challenge, inspire and nurture young people to succeed in a global community. The wellbeing of its pupils is at the heart of everything the school does and all decisions must be of direct benefit to them. Taunton School is focused on ensuring that it prepares young people for their lives beyond school and in a world that is changing rapidly.
Academic Matters
The Senior years at Taunton School focus on continuing to build its child’s personal and intellectual development, whilst challenging and inspiring them to become forward thinkers with an insatiable appetite for knowledge. Concentrating on both core and option subjects, the school’s fully immersive, challenging academic and extracurricular programme enables its child to make informed decisions about their GCSE and IGSCE choices, and then A Level, IB Diploma or BTEC subject choices as they continue their fulfilling educational journey. And to ensure its child continues to reach their full potential as they progress through the Senior years, teachers regularly assess their work and provide constructive feedback.
Boarding / Pastoral Care
Taunton School’s five boarding houses provide a safe and secure homely environment for pupils aged 13 to 18 years old either for full, weekly or flexible boarding. The boarding community lies right at the heart of Taunton School. Homely, cosmopolitan and centrally located, all five boarding houses are a hive of activity and all have their own distinctive identities, legendary characters and colourful histories. Although each house has its own unique personality, all have similar pastoral structures, a common ethos and modern facilities. With spacious dormitories, recreational areas, lounges and ICT suites at their disposal to aid work, rest and play.
Extracurricular
The school provides a sporting programme which enables those pupils striving for sporting excellence and elite performance, in county, regional and national competitions with high quality, experienced and well qualified coaches and a performance programme to support and guide them physically and mentally. It is hoped that all students have the ability to access a broad range of activities, which will develop a passion for sport and the understanding of a healthy lifestyle and promote lifelong participation. Participation in school events throughout the year, such as recitals, musicals, concerts and House Music competitions, and performing in national orchestras and ensembles is highly encouraged and allows pupils to build confidence, express themselves musically and fine tune their performance skills.
