Basic Information & Location

St Mary’s School Ascot is a leading Roman Catholic boarding school for girls aged between 11 and 18 years set in 55 acres of beautiful grounds in the heart of Berkshire.

School Motto

St Mary’s is a friendly, stable and caring community, proud of our academic and extracurricular achievements and dedicated to bringing out the full potential of each of our 380 pupils.

Academic Matters

St Mary’s provides a broad and balanced curriculum to GCSE including: Art, biology, chemistry, classical Greek, drama, English, French, geography, German, Greek, history, Italian, information and communication technology, Latin, mathematics, music, physics, physical education, religious studies and Spanish. Pupils also follow a course in Personal, Social and Health Education (Skills for Life) throughout their time at St Mary’s. The school’s average class size is between 18 to 20, with A Levels being taught in small groups.

Boarding / Pastoral Care

The boarding principles and aims of the school are based firmly on the values of respect for each individual in the school community, regardless of ethnicity, culture, gender or disability. Respect for self, and the right of everyone to develop spiritually, culturally, morally and socially during their time as a boarder at St Mary’s underpin both the pastoral care and curriculum.

Extracurricular

Weekends at St Mary’s are eagerly anticipated. As a full boarding school there are always lots of girls around at school and there is a lot on offer for them to do. Weekends are organised by each of the Houses through the year taking on suggestions from pupils. Saturday mornings start with registration and chapel and then quiet study until about midday. Lunch is then followed by the organised activities. Often these follow a theme, for example, Bollywood, or they are focused on a main event – a social on the Saturday, or screening a film in the Rose Theatre,  or Sports Day, or the Charity Funfair or Bonfire Night.
