Basic Information & Location

St Catherine’s School is an All Girls Independent Day and Boarding School Located in Bramley, near Guildford, Surrey for girls Aged Four to Eighteen.

School Motto

St. Catherine’s is about education in its broadest sense.  Moreover, as a girls’ school, St Catherine’s ensures that its students develop in an environment which suggests to them in everything they see around them that there is nothing that a woman cannot achieve.

Academic Matters

In the first three years at St Catherine’s all girls follow a general academic programme that is designed to give each girl a broad curriculum in advance of her I/GCSE options in U4. I/GCSE Options are taken in the Spring Term of the U4. U5 year girls also choose their AS options in the Spring Term after the curriculum at St Catherine’s may be divided into specific areas.

Boarding / Pastoral Care

Boarding has always been an intrinsic and popular part of the School and fundamental to the School’s ethos. St Cats firmly believe that boarding fosters respect and concern for others, and gives the girls the confidence to develop their independence and own sense of style. Nearly all members of the boarding staff have academic roles in the School as well as boarding responsibilities. This has the great advantage that the girls are well-known to staff who see them in every context both in and out of the classroom and have a sympathetic understanding of each girl’s needs. They are also a very helpful resource during prep time.

Extracurricular

There is a wide range of clubs and activities available at St. Catherine’s, a few happening before school and some at lunchtime, but most happening after school. Girls can take part in scheduled music and sporting events, but can also further their enjoyment in other areas. Clubs offered include History or Geography, Languages or Debating, Science or Puzzles, Pottery or Papier Maché.
