Basic Information & Location
Established in 1913 by the Lloyd-Williams family, Moreton Hall is one of the UK’s highest achieving independent boarding and day girls’ schools. Moreton has opened its own prep school for boys and girls since 2000. Situated in North Shropshire, the school sets in over 100 acres of stunning parkland.
Academic Development
Moreton is seen as a forward-looking school where academic success and extracurricular achievement are valued equally. The school is known for being small, friendly and open, not cluttered by petty rules, but with a clear set of values agreed upon and respected by all members of the school community.
Moreton is one of the UK’s highest-achieving schools at GCSE and A-level. In year 10 and 11, students will study Mathematics, English and Science as core subjects, plus any number of 16 optional courses.
The process of choosing A Levels starts in Year 11 (Upper 5). Girls can experience A Level taster lessons early in the Spring Term, and then choose about three subjects, supplemented by Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The school encourages girls to make choices addressing both their ability and aspiration.
In 2018, over half of all GCSE grades awarded the equivalent of A* and A. A third of students achieving straight A*s and As in each of their subjects in A-level. Over 90% securing their first choice university, that are all top universities in the UK.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
At age 11, 60% of girls are full boarders; 80% at age 13; over 90% for Sixth Form. ‘Weekly boarding’ is not offered as students are having lessons on Saturday mornings.
Accommodation is spread over six boarding houses offering a combination of single, twin, double and multi bedded rooms. Students can also choose from en-suite or dormitory style living.
Extracurricular & personal development
The School offers a tranquil environment in private and secluded grounds, with exceptionally well-equipped sports centre, sports hall, floodlit tennis courts, a heated indoor swimming pool, a nine-hole golf course and playing fields. Also, it is also prepared with outstanding music facilities, Indoor theatre and outdoor amphitheatre etc.
The School runs a full programme of extra activities daily and every weekend. The students are given many opportunities to go on trips outside school, including theatre and concert visits, adventure programmes and visits to local towns.
