Basic Information & Location
Set in 100 acres of stunning Scottish parkland, Merchiston offers the English National Curriculum. The School is just a 15 minute drive from Edinburgh International Airport.
School Motto
The school’s main objective is to motivate pupils to try their hardest and to strive to achieve the highest levels possible in all areas, whilst living as part of a community. Whilst the school is concentrating on the academic platform of each boy, alongside the importance of co-curricular activities, it also tries to focus on developing boys who are all-rounders with a sense of values.
Academic Matters
Merchiston’s all-through Curriculum is designed to enable students to progress and demonstrate achievement. Continuity and progression within our planning enables us to meet the needs of every boy, whatever his range of abilities, and varied rates of learning. Communication is at the centre of our academic curriculum and impacts on all teaching and learning. Our planning is underpinned by Personal, Social and Health Education, within the Wellbeing agenda, and addresses the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development of the boys.
Boarding / Pastoral Care
From its youngest boarders aged seven right through to the young adults in the sixth form, Merchiston provides a full-boarding programme seven days a week. Merchiston encourages respect and tolerance for others, as well as the value of being independent.
Extracurricular
Sport at Merchiston has a long and successful tradition. With upwards of 20 sports and 30 co-curricular activities offered to boys of all abilities, as well as specialist Golf and Tennis Academies, boys really are spoilt for choice. The School is currently represented nationally and internationally in a number of sports, including athletics, cricket, golf and rugby.
