Basic Information & Location
Situated in 46 acres of stunning Dorset parkland, just south of Sherborne, Leweston School is an independent day and boarding school which is co-educational in the Nursery and Junior Departments and changes into Diamond School in the Senior School and Sixth Form. Leweston’s values are based upon a supportive Catholic ethos.
School Motto
The school’s motto, ‘Gaudere et Bene Facere’ – ‘Rejoice and Do Well’, suggests not only that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well, but also that it is worth doing in the right frame of mind, one which is positive, outgoing and cheerful.
Academic Matters
Leweston provides a curriculum that ensures for each of its girls balanced, appropriate and interesting opportunities for academic study. It is intended and planned to install a love of learning and to inspire the life of the mind. The focus is to enable pupils to achieve the best possible academic success. The School includes in its core provision English, History, Geography, HEF, Maths, Science, PSHE and RE, Drama, Classical Studies or Latin, Music, one Modern Foreign Language, and PE. Leweston prides itself on offering a bespoke approach to the choice of courses at both GCSE and A level. The girls are invited to select the courses that they want to study and the timetable is then constructed to allow this.
Boarding / Pastoral Care
A great deal of emphasis is placed on pastoral care at Leweston. The school is committed to providing an environment that inspires warmth, confidence, creativity and personal development in all our pupils, whether they attend Leweston as a day pupil or board on a flexi, weekly or full time basis. A supportive programme of pastoral care ensures that every girl’s personal welfare is monitored and any concerns dealt with sensitively and effectively. It helps that the school is of such a size that all staff know girls as individuals.
Extracurricular
All girls at Leweston are encouraged to take part in a number of activities outside their normal academic, musical and sporting commitments. Every weekend both boarders and day pupils are invited to participate in further activities and trips.
