Academic Development

Underpinned by Christian values, Farringtons aspires to be a place of trust and respect where teachers take an active interest in the intellectual, physical, moral and spiritual development of every student. The school knows co-education to be the right platform for developing the interpersonal skills necessary to succeed in the modern world. The importance the school places on nurturing individuality and the manageable size of Farringtons ensures that students do not get lost, but rather thrive in their own way – they are encouraged to ‘Develop and Shine’.

Meanwhile, the school is enormously proud of all its pupils’ achievements and academic during such a challenging time in 2020. Students’ outstanding results have allowed them to take up places at prestigious institutions, including the Universities of Durham, Edinburgh, Southampton, King’s, Queen Mary and Nottingham. Students have chosen to read a diverse array of subjects, ranging from Electrical Engineering, Molecular Biology and Chemistry to Psychology and Business Management.

Farringtons offers a wide range of A level and BTEC courses in the Sixth Form, to suit its students’ academic, creative and vocational aspirations and the school is extremely pleased with Year 13’s achievements.

Pastoral Care & Boarding

Farringtons works in partnership with parents to ensure that all of its pupils feel supported and valued. Careful emphasis is placed on developing good relationships with teachers through its Form Tutor system and support network. Every boarding and day pupil is assigned a Form Tutor whose role is to guide the academic and social development of the pupils in their care. These tutors are closely supported by their relevant pastoral team leader.

The Head and Assistant Heads are closely involved in the pastoral life of the school through assemblies, Chapel worship and meeting with pupils on a regular basis.

The school also organises regular Year Group meetings so parents are able to discuss their child’s progress with staff. At these meetings, individual appointments to see a member of staff or the Head can be readily made.

The 21st century places many demands on students today. Boarding at Farringtons offers the means to both escape and embrace those challenges. The school’s boutique-style boarding facilities, experienced House Staff and outstanding all-round pastoral care ensures boarders are happy and healthy, whilst their parents can be reassured that their children make excellent progress in their academic and character education.

Living in the school’s girls’ boarding house (West House) and the boys equivalent (South House) enables the students to develop those all-important life skills of independence, confidence and service whilst surrounded by a “family” of differing ages, nationalities and personalities.

Whilst the school’s unique location allows for a range of activities on-site in a safe, leafy environment whilst at weekends the activity programme exploits the benefits of living on London’s doorstep. Go-karting, mountain biking, ice-skating and site-seeing complement visits to places such as Chitown and museums.

Extra-curricular & Personal Development

Farringtons prides itself on its wide range of Co-Curricular Activities and clubs to all its pupils.

Some of the activities offered are:

Touch-Type Read and Spell Computer Course

The Touch-Type Read and Spell Computer Course (TTRS) is a programme available for both Junior and Senior pupils. TTRS is a computer-aided learning course to help develop children’s literacy skills, including reading, writing and spelling and increase their level of confidence, self-esteem and motivation. Alongside this, valuable keyboard skills are learned and developed which will aid learning across the curriculum.

Drama Club

Children work collaboratively to explore a variety of drama techniques, whilst devising a performance piece around a theme.

Sport is also important at Farringtons and, through it, the school offers all pupils, whatever their ability, valuable team building and leadership experience. Although close to London, the school is fortute to have outstanding sports facilities of its own, including 25 acres of grounds which house playing fields and excellent indoor facilities, which provide the opportunity for: badminton, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey and more. The school caters for a wide range of talents and its enthusiastic teachers urge all of the pupils to find activities they really enjoy and at which they are able to excel.
