Chigwell School Extracurricular

Sport plays an important part in the life of the school. There are facilities like 3G pitch, playing fields, astroturf, a brand new Sports and Wellness Center with a gym, six-lane pool. Saturday sport is very inclusive at Chigwell. Saturday sport is very inclusive at Chigwell. Football, hockey and cricket are played for one term each.

Community services and charity work are also important aspects of Chigwell life, and boarders have been involved in strengthening the bond of union beyond the school and the local area and volunteering at Chigwell Riding Trust for people with special needs.

Chigwell School Boarding

The students live in four extended family-style houses (two for girls and two for boys), and in each house, students of different nationalities live together with their house parents, who are experienced teachers and academic staff, and their families. In each house, a group of 7 or 8 students of different nationalities live together with the houseparents and their families.

Boarders enjoy regular outings such as ice skating at Somerset House in London and various theatre productions as well as day trips to places like Brighton, Oxford and Cambridge.

Chigwell School Pastoral Care

The house system creates an identity and sense of belonging within the school. A key role for the house system is the pastoral care it offers; tutors tend to stick with tutor groups, so know their pupils (and often their parents) really well by the time they leave the school.

Boarders here benefit from a dual pastoral support system, where they are also members of ‘day houses’ and are part of the school’s local student community.

Chigwell School Fees

School fees include tuition, materials, educational visits (but not residential courses), sports and educational travel, swimming lessons, and most clubs and societies. For boarding students, some trips and excursions are included in the termly boarding fee, and others are offered at a subsidised cost. All compulsory boarding trips are included.
