Basic Information & Location
Founded in 1845, Brighton College is wonderfully situated at the heart of Brighton’s Kemptown, just a short walk from the sea yet only minutes away from the beauty of the South Downs national Park. London is less than an hour away by train. Brighton College was awarded as the “Most forward thinking school” by The Week in 2017. However, the school has not been established for long and this explains why it is not as popular among local parents. In fact, under the leadership of former headmaster Sir Seldon, who was granted a knighthood, the school has become well known around the world. Brighton College Dubai will open its doors in 2018, with a capacity for 2,000 boys and girls.
Academic Development
The academic curriculum in the College aims to inspire lifelong learning and combines the best of both a traditional and innovative education. For GCSE, most pupils do nine GCSE and all pupils do the core subjects of English literature and English language, maths and the three sciences. For A-Level, most pupils take three or four A-Level over the two years. The statistic proves the excellent academic achievement in Brighton College especially in Science. In 2017, over 87% of the students received A* or A in GCSE and 96% received A*-B in A-Level. The A-Level results has remained top 10 in England in recent years.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
Brighton College has a thriving boarding community which contains Girls’ Boarding, Boys’ Boarding and Junior Boarding (aged 11-13). All five boarding houses have excellent facilities, including Wi-Fi, Skype, modern furniture, fitted kitchens and IT suites. There are inter-house competitions, which include sports, debating, house singing and general knowledge. Regular evening events include quizzes, film nights and social events such as combined dinners, music evenings and lectures from guest speakers.
Extracurricular & personal development
Brighton College is located near the beach, where students can enjoy the beautiful scenery and a variety of outdoor activities. The school has a reputation for sporting excellence and continues to be one of the country’s best sporting schools. Teams compete on a weekly basis throughout the year. Rugby, Cricket, Netball and Girls Hockey teams entered in national competitions. Drama is one of the highlight in Brighton College. Throughout the year, professionals in the industry are invited into the school to talk and work with students. Drama trips are also organised regularly for students to see professional work in Brighton, in London and further afield.
