Basic Information & Location
Bedford School is a boys’ school located in the heart of Bedford in the East of England, 90 mins away from London Heathrow Airport by drive. As one of the top 24 public schools, the school offers GCSE, A-Level, IBDP and achieves excellent academic results in the Arts, Science and Music. Benford may be less famous than Eton or Harrow, but if we look at its historical background and ranking, Bedford is doing as great. It is also one of the few boys’ schools that have preparatory school. An International division has been established in recent years to take better care of the overseas students. Academic Development
The skills and talents of the teachers at Bedford School ensure that they offer not only academic excellence but also a thriving and extensive extracurricular programme. The school provides outstanding learning resources, including a Observatory and Planetarium, Theatre, and Library. The exam results are strong, with boys’ results always significantly surpassing national average outcomes at all levels. In 2017, 84% of entries resulted in passes at top grades A* to B, while 90% of IB Higher Level students were graded Level 5-7 (equivalent to A* to B in A-Level).
Pastoral Care & Boarding
There are six boarding houses in the Upper School, each with its own distinct character. The school provides full boarding an weekly boarding. Weekly boarders can return to the House on either Sunday evening or the Monday morning while full boarders can enjoy every weekend with regular trips and activities. The inter-house events are varied enough to appeal to all the students with different interests. Activities include paintballing contests, plays, quizzes and celebrations, as well as traditional sporting competitions and weekly assemblies.
Extracurricular & personal development
The school encourages boys to participate in a new activity each term, allowing them to try out new hobbies and develop valuable skills, such as leadership and teamwork. In sport, boys practice self-motivation and teamwork it encourages and develops. In Theatre, Music school and Art, they have the opportunity to explore their individual creativity. The first-class facilities include an indoor 25m swimming pool, 28 tennis courts, 4 squash courts, a climbing wall, a superbly equipped fitness suite and immaculate grass pitches.
