關於排行榜,你不知道的…

NATIONAL PERFORMANCE TABLES在1992年開始便是英國學校的一個熱門議題,保守派議員堅持學術表現是家長為孩子選校必不可少的標準。

而一直以來,排行榜的公信力備受質疑,甚至有人認為曾被篡改。

歷屆政府持續提出「提高排行榜標準」,但這更甚只是政府對學校實行中央集權的手段。

隨著A-LEVELS日見提高的重要性,許多學校側重於學術成績,做出超越自己應有的水準。

學校的表現可以從幾個方面參考:A級到C級的最佳成績、A/B等的最佳成績、獲得A*/A級成績的學生比例、以及預科生拿到3科A或以上成績的學生比例。

香港家長除了看報紙上定期出現的排名表之外,還應該參考附加表 (Value Added tables) 。

簡單而言,附加表記錄了在全國範圍內不同學生在不同教育階段的比較(從key stage 2到key stage 4)而key stage 2的測試指標是指學生在同時期的能力。

大多學校的Value Added分數都在1000分左右,如果一間學校的Value Added分數高過1000分的話,那間學校的學生很大可能會比其他同齡生更為出色。

附加表以外還有更多。

最近,「最佳八科附加英數」的評估方法開始發揮作用。

「最佳八科附加英數」的評估方式是學生最佳八科GCSE以及英文和數學成績,以兩倍計算分數。

最後,香港的家長需要留意較為挑剔的寄宿學校較少把出色學生的資料貼上附加表,所以即便一些私立學校的學生在課文輔助活動方面表現出色,學校的排名也不會很高。
