Sevenoaks School Overview

Sevenoaks is a co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18, set on a 100-acre campus in the Kent countryside—just 30 minutes from Central London and Gatwick Airport.

The school embodies a holistic approach to education, shaped by the principles of the International Baccalaureate. While academic achievement is valued, Sevenoaks places equal emphasis on personal development, creativity, and global awareness. Its goal is not only to remain a top IB school but to lead the way in educational innovation and thought leadership.

Table of Contents

Academic Matters

Sevenoaks offers a broad and balanced curriculum that combines depth with meaningful choice. The school prioritises enrichment over acceleration, discouraging early exam entry or using free time to sit additional tests. In short, learning at Sevenoaks is not about rushing through subjects or collecting qualifications—it’s about engaging deeply, thinking critically, and taking time to reflect.

Sevenoaks Courses And Programmes

IB Diploma

At Sevenoaks, the IB Diploma is more than an academic qualification—it’s a transformative educational journey. The programme encourages meaningful dialogue between teachers and students, often centred on the students’ own questions and interests. With its emphasis on critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and global perspectives, the IB equips students with the skills to engage with new ideas long after school ends. For nearly 40 years, the IB has helped Sevenoaks students secure places at leading universities worldwide—demonstrating how highly institutions value the depth and breadth of the IB experience.

Middle School Diploma The Middle School Diploma reflects Sevenoaks’ forward-thinking approach to education. It recognises both academic development and the personal, emotional, and social growth that occurs inside and outside the classroom. The programme encourages students to explore lesser-noticed aspects of school life, develop self-awareness, and build character. It’s designed to help young learners become reflective, responsible individuals, prepared for the challenges of senior school and beyond.

This close-knit structure also encourages meaningful friendships to form. The result is a warm, welcoming atmosphere built on the school’s core values of compassion, open-mindedness, and trust.

Sevenoaks School Extracurricular Activities

The school’s purpose-built facilities support this breadth. The Space hosts performances, rehearsals, and workshops for the performing arts, while the Sennocke Centre provides top-class sporting amenities.

Located near London, Sevenoaks also gives students access to the city’s cultural scene—offering regular trips to concerts, theatre productions, and galleries, as well as opportunities to study at leading music academies.

Service is central to school life. All students take part in projects that benefit both local and global communities, encouraging social responsibility and leadership.

Sevenoaks School Reviews

There’s always somewhere to go and someone to listen to you. Whether it’s a teacher or a nurse in the Health Centre, someone is always willing to give up their time no matter how big or small the issue.
Millie
There is a strong Tutor system. Pupils meet daily in small groups with their Tutor who acts as a mentor. Pupils are encouraged to speak freely if they have any concerns thus alleviating any worries they may have.
Rohit
The people at Sevenoaks are great and I’ve learned a lot while studying here. Not just in terms of academics either, I’ve learned a lot from my friends and teachers too.. It’s always easy to talk to teachers when we have any questions. Pupils here can freely speak their mind which I think is important as it teaches us to be assertive.
