Denistry

Dentistry is a specialised branch of medicine dedicated to the study of oral health. It goes beyond treating teeth, encompassing the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums, jawbones, and related facial structures.

In the early stages of the programme, students study foundational medical sciences such as anatomy and physiology, before progressing to specialised subjects including oral pathology, dental materials science, and radiology, thereby building a solid scientific foundation for clinical diagnosis.

In addition to theoretical learning, the programme places strong emphasis on clinical practice, ranging from simulation training to performing procedures on real patients, such as examinations, fillings, root canal treatments, and minor surgical procedures.

Overall, Dentistry aims to train you to become a dental professional equipped with comprehensive knowledge, refined technical skills, and a strong sense of professional ethics.

Professional qualification in Hong Kong

After completing a recognised Bachelor of Dental Surgery Programme in Hong Kong, graduates must apply for registration with the Dental Council of Hong Kong (DCHK), which is the primary and mandatory requirement to practise as a dentist. Upon successful registration, their names will be entered into the local register of dentists, granting them the legal right to practise in Hong Kong.

Professional qualification in UK

After completing a dental degree in the United Kingdom, you must first register with the General Dental Council (GDC) in order to practise legally. Graduates are required to undertake one year of Dental Foundation Training, during which they work under the supervision of an experienced dentist in the National Health Service (NHS) or an approved practice to consolidate their clinical experience.

Upon completion of the training and obtaining full registration, you may practise within the UK’s public healthcare system or in private practice.
