Basic Information & Transportation

St Francis’ College is a happy and thriving school located in the midst of Letchworth Garden City which takes less than an hour train ride to London. The nearest airports are London Luton and Heathrow.

Founded in 1933, the school is a day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18. Buildings, sport fields and gardens are set in over 7 acres within the Letchworth Conservation Area.

 

Academic Development

The school aims to provide stimulating education based on Christian values, enabling young women to thrive in an ever-changing global environment. With the breadth of opportunity, students can be ensured to realise their potential.

Students aged 11 to 14 are offered a broad and balanced curriculum. Apart from academic development, the school also values social skills, appreciation of arts and ability in sports. Small classes are introduced to ensure each girl receives individual attention.

When it comes to year 10 to 11, most students study 10 subjects at GCSE level.

In the Sixth Form, students are suggested to take at least three A-level subjects. Meanwhile, a Life Skills programme runs in parallel with the academic programme.

 

Pastoral Care & Boarding

The structure of boarding is to create a family atmosphere. Girls have a variety of opportunities to learn to be responsible for their education and for each other.

Also, the Boarding House is designed to develop all-round students who balance between academic and extra-curricular area. The academic aspect is facilitated by monitoring prep sessions; library and IT rooms open well into the evening. There are trips at the weekend of visiting museums in London to shopping centres in Cambridge.

 

Extracurricular & personal development

Students are encouraged to involve in as many activities as possible. Activities take place in the lunch time, after school or during the weekend. Among all activities, the creative and performing arts have a strong tradition at St Francis’. Tuition in many instruments are offered. Regarding sports, it is also encouraged at all levels of ability, including Athletics, Cross Country, Football etc.

There are plenty of opportunities of school trips and excursions.
