Langley School Overview

Langley School occupies a scenic 110-acre site in the market town of Loddon, just 10 miles south of Norwich in Norfolk. Established in 1911 and originally located in Norwich, the school relocated to its current grounds following the Second World War. Girls were first admitted in 1978, beginning with three Sixth Form pupils. A major milestone came in 2010, when Langley merged with Thorpe House Girls School, expanding its Prep School and increasing female enrolment in the Senior School. The schools fully merged in 2017, now offering a seamless educational journey for pupils aged 2 to 18.

Langley School is known for fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student is encouraged to thrive. Its educational approach is built on intellectual development, creativity, and character-building, with a strong emphasis on challenge, nurture, and service.

Personal development is central to the school’s ethos, aiming to shape pupils into kind, curious, and confident individuals who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Langley School Reviews

“My boarding experience so far has been wonderful. I have made many friends from Years 7 to 10, having fun activities I can do every single day. In boarding, having free time being able to do anything you want for two hours is another benefit to boarding. The meals at boarding are tasty and you have a range of choices to eat what you want. Sleeping at boarding is the same as sleeping at home. It’s comfortable, nice and it’s just like having a sleepover with your friends. The teachers in boarding are kind and nice, and are fun to play activities with in the sports hall during free time. The rooms in boarding are well cleaned and tidy. Having one hour to do prep is a great way to get all of it done. You have a few hours of free time depending on your year group in school, which is the same with bed time. You can do a range of things during your free time. For example, you could play in the sports hall and or go to the gym or do anything you want.”

“Boarding at Langley School has been one of the most entertaining and interesting experiences of my entire school career. I am still able to remember when I first came to visit Langley School’s boarding, and I was absolutely certain that I wanted to come here for my educational journey. The staff and students have been such a friendly community towards me and my brother, especially when we first joined and were clueless about anything. However, we had a good idea of what we had to do when the community guided us throughout the first term. Me and my brother both enjoyed boarding at Langley so much, as we had a lot of time for learning, e.g. prep time, activities and trips, but we also had a lot of free time to ourselves where we could converse among each other and chat about our day. Boarding has had a really big impact on schoolwork and education, as my time for studying and free time have been sorted out for me. Boarding offers the perfect amount of time for me to have fun and also receive the best grades I can at school, so that I have a balanced amount of hard work and fun. Overall, boarding at Langley is wonderful, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who is considering joining.“

“My life in boarding is interesting, I have been boarding in different schools since I was 13. On my first day in Langley boarding, I was fascinated by the building and the grounds around the school. I couldn’t believe I was going to board in this amazing environment. I’m an international student and, when I feel homesick, boarding staff will support me as much as they can. The arrangement of taxis for international students is very organised. I like how the school arranges lots of trips to us, for example tubing, cinema trips and theme parks. It makes my boarding journey more absorbing. For me, academia is a key point to me. Boarding helps me to concentrate on my school work and revise for my tests. Boarding is surely one of the memorable periods of my life. I think everyone should try to go to a boarding school like Langley so they can make lifelong friendships and boost their confidence, social skills, and self-esteem.”
