Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is a broad and comprehensive branch of engineering that applies principles of physics, mathematics and materials science to design, analyse, manufacture and maintain a wide range of mechanical systems. The curriculum explores core disciplines such as mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and materials science in depth, enabling students to understand how energy is transformed, how materials respond to forces and how mechanical components operate.

The learning process places strong emphasis on the ability to create from concept to reality. Students develop skills in computer aided design CAD, simulation and analytical modelling, and hands on prototyping to transform theoretical knowledge into tangible products. In summary, studying Mechanical Engineering aims to cultivate problem solving specialists who can apply scientific knowledge to develop devices ranging from micro scale sensors to aircraft engines and power stations, thereby advancing technology and improving quality of life.

Professional qualification in Hong Kong

After completing a recognised Mechanical Engineering degree in Hong Kong, graduates may join the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and enrol in the Scheme A Training Programme to receive structured on the job training.

Upon completion of the training and accumulation of the required working experience, they may apply for professional assessment. Successful candidates will be admitted as Members of the Institution MHKIE. After obtaining membership, they may apply to the Engineers Registration Board to become a statutory Registered Professional Engineer (RPE).

Professional qualification in UK

After completing an accredited Mechanical Engineering degree in the United Kingdom, graduates may join professional institutions such as the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and begin gaining professional development experience in preparation for obtaining professional qualifications.

Their main goal is to achieve Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. This requires continuous professional development and practical experience to demonstrate that they have met the standards of professional competence and leadership set by the Engineering Council.

Once sufficient experience has been gained, applicants may submit an application to a professional institution such as IMechE and attend a professional review interview. Upon successful assessment, they may register as a Chartered Engineer.
