Law

A Law programme focuses on studying the system of rules that governs society, as well as the principles of fairness and justice that underpin those rules. The curriculum covers foundational areas such as constitutional law, criminal law, and contract law, enabling students to understand how the law protects individual rights and regulates social conduct.

The learning process places strong emphasis on analysing real court cases, through which students develop rigorous logical reasoning and the ability to construct persuasive arguments. Overall, studying Law aims to cultivate the professional skills needed to apply legal knowledge in resolving disputes and safeguarding rights and interests.

Professional qualification in Hong Kong

After completing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or an equivalent qualification in Hong Kong, graduates must enrol in and complete the one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL), which is the mandatory pathway to becoming a practising lawyer.

Upon completion, they may choose their career path by qualifying either as a Solicitor, which requires completing a two-year training contract with a law firm, or as a Barrister, which involves undertaking a one-year pupillage under the supervision of a practising barrister.

After successfully completing the required training period and fulfilling all relevant requirements, they may be formally admitted by the High Court of Hong Kong and obtain the qualification to practise as a Solicitor or Barrister in Hong Kong.

Professional qualification in UK

After completing a law degree in the United Kingdom, graduates may choose to qualify either as a Solicitor or a Barrister. Those pursuing the solicitor route must pass the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), while aspiring barristers are required to complete the Bar Practice Course (BPC) (or its current equivalent vocational training course).

Solicitors must then complete two years of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE), whereas barristers are required to undertake a one-year pupillage. Upon successfully meeting all examination and practical training requirements, they may formally register and obtain the legal qualification to practise in England and Wales.
