Basic Information & Location

Truro school is a co-ed independent school for pupils aged 3-18 offering a wide-ranging curriculum twinned with outstanding results.

School Motto

Truro School’s mission is to be a beacon of inclusive excellence developing confident, tolerant and enthusiastic young people who enjoy working with others and are ready to influence the world.

Academic Matters

Truro School is a place characterised by constructive and trusting relationships, a place where talented and dedicated teachers accompany pupils as individuals on this leg of their journey. The school also aspires to be an organisation that learns, in self-critical pursuit of our goal to offer a creative, innovative and progressive education. The school teaches the full range of arts, science and social science subjects to GCSE and A-Level. French and German are both taught in the first, second and third year. All students are required to take a Humanity (History or Geography) and a Foreign Language (French, German or Spanish). Physical Education (PE) becomes optional from fourth year onwards, but students can choose to take it at GCSE and A-level standard.

Boarding / Pastoral Care

Though the majority of students are day-pupils, there are also some 50 boarders, of whom a quarter are from overseas, including a dozen German exchange students who spend up to three terms in the Lower Sixth. Trennick is the only boarding house situated in the school’s original main building, although the other three are on the campus. They are family-run communities with married resident house staff and other teachers who live on site. Temporary and ‘flexi-boarding’ are also available.

Extracurricular

Built on a hilltop overlooking the city of Truro and its nineteenth century Cathedral, the senior school’s campus’ facilities include the school chapel, Burrell Theatre, a covered and heated swimming pool, two gymnasiums, 40 acres of sports fields, tennis and squash facilities, an astroturf pitch, the newly refurbished Dodd library, and the Sir Ben Ainslie Sports’ Centre. The senior school is almost entirely situated on a hill and is well adapted for disabled students.
