Basic Information & Location

The Royal School Dungannon is a co-educational Voluntary Grammar School and Boarding School established by Royal Charter in 1608 in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

School Motto

The aim of the School is to provide pupils with an opportunity to study a broad curriculum and to develop a lifelong love of learning; and to foster an environment within which pupils may seek and fulfil their persol development. There is an expectation that every pupil will always give of his or her best and seek excellence.

Academic Matters

The school week is divided into 50 periods, each 30 or 35 minutes long.  The general curriculum structure for Years 8 to 10 is set out below.  The Cross-Curricular Skills and Thinking Skills & Personal Capabilities are infused throughout the subjects.

Boarding / Pastoral Care

The boarding department offers both five and seven day boarding for boys and girls aged eleven to eighteen. The boarding houses are located in the heart of the school, and provide a warm, friendly, home-from-home environment where our pupils thrive. The boarding department has recently been refurbished to provide pupils with modern and well-equipped facilities, including wifi, and Sky TV. Pupils are cared for by a team of boarding staff, including matrons, tutors and house parents. Staff are always on hand to offer support, advice and guidance, and to ensure that pupils are supervised appropriately without unnecessary intrusion. Pupils are encouraged to become independent and self-disciplined, by taking responsibility for their own organisation.

Extracurricular

Weekends are a busy time for the pupils, who may be involved in various sports fixtures, or who may use their time to pursue a favourite hobby, perhaps through a school club. Often, the school organises day trips to places of local interest, allowing pupils to experience activities and events outside the daily school environment.
