Basic Information & Location
Queen Anne’s School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged from 11 to 18, and is located in Berkshire, England. About half of the pupils are boarders. Queen Anne’s is a member of the Girls’ Schools Association and the Boarding Schools’ Association. Queen Anne’s campus is a 35-acre site with landscaped gardens and playing fields immediately adjacent to the teaching and boarding accommodation. The facilities include a café for formers and parents, which was opened in 2009. In 2010, Queen Anne’s School is well-known for its “Brain Can Do” spirit, and school is endeavouring to nurture girls into confident, motivated, and caring ladies.
Academic Development
According to the Independent Schools Inspectorate’s Inspection Report in 2011, the pupils’ overall achievement was graded “Excellent”, almost all pupils progress to higher education and develop their potentials to the fullest. In 2017, 66% of the graduates achieved A*-B in A-Level, and 36% of them achieved A*-A. And most students can secure a place in the top 20 UK universities. Also, Queen Anne’s offers some unique courses like Latin, Chinese and Music Technology for students.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
Boarding life at Queen Anne’s is immense fun. It’s busy and action packed, but it’s also carefully considered. At the very heart of boarding is the ‘human’ aspect and ensuring each girl feels loved and valued is key to this. There are four boarding houses in school, namely Maddock, Wilkins, Holmes and Michell. Inter-house events and competitions are often held so that the girls get to know each other.
Extracurricular & personal development
Saturday morning lessons were replaced in 2009 for optional sport, hobbies and extended learning activities, including rowing, horse riding, textiles and first aid. Some special courses are dog trainings, self-defense and jewelry making. Besides, school’s choir and orchestra have gained reputation in the world. They are often invited to perform in many European countries and in Westminster Abbey termly. Queen Anne’s School was a founder of the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships and many students participate in the competition every year. As for drama, students from Westminster have won prizes from RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art).
