Care Policies / Boarding Life

At Cranleigh School, a consistent structure is maintained across all houses. Each house is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress, accompanied by a Deputy and a Non-Resident Deputy responsible for the day pupils in the house. The Housemaster or Housemistress, along with their family, and the Deputy reside on-site. Supporting the house staff are two full-time Matrons who work in shifts, ensuring that there is always one present in the house from wake-up time to bedtime. The Matrons not only handle medical, laundry, and general housekeeping tasks but also offer reassurance, guidance, and a balance of firm yet affectionate discipline. The Matron’s room often serves as the social focal point of the house, especially popular after prep time when hot chocolate and treats are distributed.

Following the evening meal and social interactions, prep sessions take place within the boarding houses, with staff and Sixth Form prefects providing support and mentoring. After completing prep, a range of school and house activities are organized until bedtime. These activities vary from day to day and encompass a wide array of options, including casual food treat nights, games, TV viewing, sports activities, as well as more planned outings like cinema trips, visits to trampoline parks, or dining at restaurants.
