誕大餐的真實與幻想
還有三日就到聖誕節,籌備Christmas Party和聖誕大餐也進行得如火如荼。游走於一個二個whatsapp group之間,總有一兩個朋友會提出「不如今年搞傳統聖誕餐吖!」少年你太年輕了,如果你有食過比較傳統的西式聖誕大餐,相信就不會再對這種fancy dinner有多餘的fantasy了。
 
 
話說在英國過聖誕,總有機會試下最classic最傳統的聖誕餐,畢竟英國人視聖誕節為年中最重要節日之一。不過,理想總會和現實有所不同,滿心歡喜期待住一碟二碟超豐富的聖誕美食,香烤火雞做主菜,一人一塊香草烤鱈魚,加白酒做餐酒,after meal還有曲奇餅和咖啡,成餐飯肚滿腸肥飲飽食醉。結果和幻想中有多少出入,使我對傳統聖誕餐的幻想破滅,還是老老實實叫pizza壽司外賣到會好過。
 
 
首先,聖誕食火雞是常識吧。有時候亦會揀英式燒鵝或燒鴨。不要看火雞外表好像KFC燒雞咁正,實際上「鞋」到飛起。不同地方有不同習俗,有些人都會喜歡將煙肉、香草等加入火雞,也有些會用檸檬、牛油等特別煮法。只能說,喜歡食的人就好喜歡,不喜歡的就見到都怕怕。

英國人喜歡吃薯仔,聖誕都不例外。既簡單又快捷的食法是烤薯仔,和平日食的一樣。較特別的是配上特制的紅梅醬或麵包醬,酸酸的感覺好開胃,但卻令你不自覺地狂食薯仔,好快就飽到飛起……
 
 
還有一種食物,好明顯是因為絞盡腦汁都想不到整乜好,結果是但將所有野撈在一起的Christmas Stuffing。中文且叫它聖誕餡餅吧。如此曖昧的名字相信是因為菜式比較「貼地」,即是廚房有乜就整乜。Christmas Stuffing的材料多變,有人會放薑餅、栗子、榛子、杏仁等較健康的,也有人選擇香腸、煙肉、洋荵等口感較豐富的。記得我曾經試過一種,是橙皮、磨菇和魚……

聖誕餐令我最期待的,是甜品Christmas Pudding。第一次見Christmas Pudding時,感覺好像英國馳名美食Black Pudding,黑黑實實有點得人驚。食落其實唔差,蛋糕base的布丁令味道有一定的「包底」,不會太差。通常也會落些提子乾,使口感「in in un un」。主要因為加入了糖漿和牛油,通常味道都不會太差。

當然啦,有得揀的話我都不會將英式聖誕餐排在Christmas Dinner的首位。我還是比較喜歡食放題或自助餐,又平又抵食。不過又咁,其實聖誕晚餐都係志在和朋友聚聚舊,吃甚麼嘛……火雞就火雞啦!

Considering its reputation, Oundle School may not catch up to Eton, Wycombe Abbey and else top elite schools. However, Oundle’s academic performance is among the best in the United Kingdom.
