The pastoral system is proactive, student-centred, and supported by dedicated tutors, counsellors, and a wellbeing centre. Individual needs are met through one-on-one support, regular check-ins, and tailored interventions. Strategy tutors work closely with students to monitor progress and recommend resources or adjustments where needed.

The school follows a holistic five-step wellbeing model:

Relate – build social connections

Observe – disconnect and reflect in nature

Care – volunteer and engage with the community

Keep learning – acquire new skills and interests

Stay active – exercise regularly using indoor and outdoor facilities

Wellbeing initiatives are evidence-based and data-driven, using tools like the Cambridge Wellbeing Check to monitor student welfare. OICB also leverages its location by encouraging nature walks, beach outings, and outdoor activities to support mental health.

Boarding students benefit from a strong support network and a vibrant residential life, with regular social activities and community-building events to create a “home away from home.” Nutritious meals, fitness options, and student-led clubs promote a balanced lifestyle.

By prioritising emotional, social, and physical wellbeing, OIC Brighton ensures every student feels safe, supported, and ready to thrive both academically and personally.
