Basic Information & Location
Ipswich School is an independent co-educational school situated in Suffolk, the East of England. In 1852, the school moved into new buildings on its current site. Suffolk is a nice area in England but the town of Ipswich is rated as a bad place with high unemployment rate. British people do not like the town because of that. Ipswich School is an outstanding school in a poor place. However, there is one good thing about its location that it is close to London. The academic results of the school is very satisfying because the options of school are limited and most of the bright students will go for Ipswich School. Many Hong Kong people are studying there. The school received the top rating – excellent – in the recent Independent Schools Inspectorate Report. They were graded as excellent in all categories.
Academic Development
Ipswich School has a strong and consistent academic reputation. Students achieve excellent examination results and progress to the best universities, including Oxbridge and top Russell Group. In 2022, 43% achieved 9-8 grades at GCSE and 66% achieved 9-7 grades. A Level results were 57% A* – A and 83% at A*-B. Popular university destinations include: Durham, Kings College London, Exeter, Warwick and Edinburgh.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
Ipswich School is predominantly a day school, but it does have boarding facilities. The boarding house is at Westwood, within walking distance of the main school campus. Numbers are limited to 50 Senior School girls and boys. As a largely day school, they offer an opportunity for the small number of full-time overseas boarders to mix with English pupils and to enrich the culture of the school.
Extracurricular & personal development
There are not many activities in Ipswich School but every pupil is still encouraged to join a range of clubs, Thursday afternoon activities, combined cadet force, Duke of Edinburgh Award and leadership programme. Sports, music and drama are parts of their school life as well. Their hockey teams regularly make national finals. The school has several playing fields in and around the school site and a Sports Centre with three hockey pitches and six netball courts.
