【頭條日報:赴英升學談】 名牌大學成績門檻

剛出席主講由EF辦的英國大學留學講座,其中有值在此分享的話題,譬如不同大學取錄DSE生的成績門檻以及名牌大學跟名牌學系的概念等。

英國大學在取錄DSE的成績門檻各有不同,大致可分成四級,牛津、劍橋、倫大學院、倫大經濟學院、帝國學院屬於第一級;Warwick和Nottingham加上其他紅磚大學屬於第二級;九十年代由理工升格為大學的如OxfordBrookes、Northumbria、Coventry為第三級,第四級乃千禧年前後獲特許成可以頒學位的院校,如LiverpoolHope、SouthamptonSolent、AngliaRuskin等等。

第一級的大學會要求DSE具備三科選修科最少有555,最嚴格的是劍橋,門檻為5*5*5;牛津則只要求555,但涉及申請與數學相關的學系,m1/m2要有5*;帝國學院則要求3個選修必須是5或5*;牛津、劍橋、帝國皆沒有要求DSE指定核心科成績;但倫大經濟學院除了要求選修科達到5*55-555,另要求核心科英、數要有4級,中文、通識也要有3級;倫大學院則規定為英、數以及三科選修課要全5級,中文、通識起碼3級。

第二級的大學入學要求較具彈性,可接受DSE4+2,譬如Warwick要求三科選修科5級,其他核心科3級,中文可不計入要求,假如只有兩科選修科,則要求另外核心科兩科皆要5級,也不計中文;Nottingham只要求DSE兩科選修加一科核心科成績達5*55-554已合標準,視乎不同學系,通識不計在內。

第三級大學如OxfordBrookes沒有清楚列明DSE門檻成績,卻有指示DSE考五科也行,一年基礎班結合三年學士學位的門檻只要求443-433成績;直入學士學位應是544-444便行。其餘第三級大學的門檻相若,標準應是444。

第四級的新大學門檻要求可能更低,在七、八月的最後階段,有可能433-333也有機會!

轉個話題,香港家長心目中的名牌大學想必是牛津、劍橋、倫大經濟、帝國等;只是真正的名牌也許不只是大學而是學系,譬如建築業名牌為Cardiff,Bath等大學,藝術及設計名牌為UAL(倫敦藝術大學),Loughborough等,工程為Bristol,科學鑑證為Dundee,會計及財務為Bath,Strathclyde,傳意及媒體學為Newcastle,酒店管理為Surrey,與其爭入名牌大學,不如選擇名牌學系更實際。
