"i have family living near Norwich. Do you think that my 15-year-old son would flourish at Norwich School?"

I trust you are aware that Norwich School is a day school, which might explain the reason why you mention your family as he may be able to live with them.

Children who attend Norwich would feel like they are part of a large piece of history. The school's roots go as far back as 1096, making it one of the oldest surviving schools in the UK. Norwich's links with royalty became well- established over the centuries and pupils now revel in learning in listed buildings of historic interest within the Cathedral Close of Norwich Cathedral.

Although the boarding element is lacking, the school is still able to provide a first-class academic education and a generous extra-curricular program. It also exhibits boarding- school characteristics, such as senior pupils dining together in the refectory and being part of a house system to oversee pastoral care of pupils.

Norwich shines on the academic front. Last year, it had a record 22 offers from Oxbridge and 61.46 per cent of A Level grades were A*-A. A total of 70 perecnt of students were placed into Russell Group universities.

Sixth-form students can count on being thoroughly prepared for university. They attend talks held by the head of careers and Oxbridge coordinator while they also benefit from one of the best tutoring systems in the country. Life in the sixth form may revolve around university applications but there are also dedicated events, such as the careers networking event.

The name of the game at Norwich is balance.

Sixth-form students enjoy being part of a strong House system and assuming a role in mentoring younger pupils. They also participate in games as well as having the opportunity to engage in community service projects. Equipping pupils for leadership and service is certainly one strand of Norwich's ethos.

I am not sure of your circumstances but Norwich uses the services of homestay parents who are all experienced. International homestay pupils are satisfied with their lodgings and the overall cultural experience of staying with a British family where they can hone their English outside of school.

For Hong Kong pupils, English proficiency is tested through the Oxford English placement test. An IELTS score of 5.5 at 15.5 years old is a good marker.
