【The Standard:Boarding Insider】Aspirational school for girls

Malvern St James Girls' School, a boarding and day school for girls aged four to 18, is located just 14 kilometers southwest of Worcester and is surrounded by the Malvern Hills - a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The school has a small, community feel about it and its size enables the school to deliver an individually tailored education. The fact that all girls, irrespective of age, are on one site reflects the "home from home" philosophy which the school upholds.

Stimulated by the school's entrepreneurial outlook where creativity, leadership and challenge mean just as much as grades, MSJ girls fully engage themselves in entrepreneurial activities and debating.

Just recently MSJ hosted its second one-day MSJ MUN (Model United Nations) Conference which brought a total of 11 schools together to debate world issues. Leading such a large conferenceinstils a range of transferable skills in MSJ girls and it is fascinating to read accounts of how previously shy girls have blossomed into confident leaders.

Additionally, the Young Enterprise Scheme is popular at MSJ.

Certainly, enrichment and societies flourish at the School. The range of trips on offer is extraordinary and girls have written enthusiastically about a recent trip to LSE, the BritishMuseum and Parliament. The number of societies at MSJ is impressive and girls are encouraged to set up and lead them if they have a passion for something.

Currently, one Sixth Form student is forming a new Psychology Society and she would like to invite old girls who are studying psychology or have graduatedto be a guest speaker.

Links with alumni at MSJ are admirable.

There is a feeling at MSJ that everything is geared towards delivering an education which provides girls with genuine prospects at the end of their formal education. Consider, for instance, the school's Sixth Form Experience Supper for Year 11 students among others, for instance, pass on excellent advice as guest speakers. There is also the MSJ Aspiration Programme which focuses on preparation for the most competitive UK and international universities and career pathways.

The environment at MSJ is extremely supportive yet never excessively pressurized.

In summary, there is never a dull moment at MSJ and Hong Kong girls will feel right at home in acosy boarding environment.
