【The Standard:Boarding Insider】Rising to prominence

Britannia studylink continues its campaign to welcome as diverse a mix of independent schools to its exhibitions in Hong Kong as it possibly can. With Eastbourne College and Clifton College in town soon, let us see what these wonderful schools have to offer.

Eastbourne College

Founded in 1867, Eastbourne College (for 13- to 18-year-olds) is situated just a kilometer from the sea in the town of Eastbourne on the south coast of England.

Eastbourne achieves excellent GCSE and A-level results, up there with some of the best schools in the country.

Yet, aside from its academic program, the school greatly emphasizes pastoral care and well-being among pupils. Staff members know pupils inside out and the school is willing to work with children of all abilities.

Art is evidently strong at Eastbourne with student work on display around the school.

Incredibly, art A-level grades have been 100 percent A*/A. Maths, science and humanities are also popular, while EPQ and leadership courses are also offered.

On Eastbourne's rise to prominence, Samuel Chan, managing director of Britannia StudyLink, said: "Eastbourne ticked all the boxes in The Good Schools Guide and Tatler Schools Guide - both of which praised the college wholeheartedly.

"An ongoing investment program and the way Eastbourne adds value in the classroom make it one to watch."

Clifton College

Founded in 1862, Clifton College, which is located in the Bristol suburb of Clifton, could be the ideal choice for Hong Kong children and families searching for a taste of British city life.

Clifton's curriculum offers an extraordinary level of breadth with more than 30 subjects available for both GCSE and A-level courses.

Music and drama departments thrive and pupils receive offers to study at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, the Guildhall, LAMDA, RADA and many more.

Facilities at Clifton are the talk of the town and, indeed, the UK independent school scene.

A wonderful combination of heritage and modernity serves the college very well. Grade II listed buildings, such as the chapel, alongside specialized buildings, such as the Redgrave Theatre, are all a sight to behold. Sporting facilities are also among the best in the country.

Outdoorsy Hong Kong children will feel right at home at Clifton College, with mountaineering, survival skills and canoeing all part of the program.
