Dulwich College is a boarding and day public school for boys in Dulwich in southeast London, one of the 12 Eton Group schools and a top public school in England. Although it is located in the city, the campus is a 70-acre site. The journey to Dulwich College is around one hour, from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. It was founded in 1619 and re-established on its present site in the 1870s. The school was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2014 and it was awarded “Excellent” in every category. It was graded as exceptional for “the quality of pupils’ achievements and learning”. Dulwich College is a cosmopolitan school that has been recruiting students from all over the world for more than a decade. It has successfully balanced between traditions and globalization. In recent years, it spent millions and millions dollars on up-to-date infrastructure. No wonder why It is said to be a school that can represent London in recent years.

Academic Development

The primary duty of Dulwich College is to ensure that all pupils are engaged in good learning, both in the classroom and beyond it. It is also school’s responsibility to enable their students to be thoroughly well prepared for the challenges of the 21st century. The academic performance of their students is outstanding, both in Arts and Sciences. In 2017 A-Level, they have a 100% passing rate with over 60% of the result are A*-A. For GCSE, nearly 90% of the grades are A*-A. Almost all their pupils go on to higher education and the majority to the most competitive universities in the UK, US and to other global destinations. In 2017, 18 students went to Oxbridge while many of the leavers were admitted to the Russell Group Universities. There is a whole range of staff and programmes designed to help and guide students in making the right choices for them once they leave Dulwich College. Apart from the guidance from the Career team, there is an annual Careers and Courses convention bringing together representatives from around 25 universities and colleges, and from commerce and industry, providing meetings and seminars with advisers for students and parents. With a great number of alumni from different professional area, the school will arrange professional networking for students.

Pastoral Care & Boarding

Parents need to be reminded that the number of boarders in Dulwich College is small. Because it is in London, most of the local students are day students. There are two boarding houses for junior students (Old Blew and The Orchard) and two for senior students (Blew House and Ivyholme). Each house is run by a Housemaster with the support of resident tutors, visiting tutors and a matron. The on-site Medical Centre has a team of qualified nursing staff ensuring that the boarding community has access to advice, care and support all the time. A doctor visits each weekday to see those who need further medical advice. Also, Dulwich College offers a confidential counselling service to pupils. There are regular House trips to central London, visiting the many museums and even nights at the theatre. There are eye-opening trips to Oxford, Cambridge and many of the other leading universities. In-house events include their own concerts, cultural celebrations and many formal and relaxed dinners.

Extracurricular & personal development

Music, sport and drama are common co-curricular activities that students will take part in. Dulwich College also has a long tradition of Scouting and CCF with boys taking part in weekly activities as well as a large number of expeditions and adventure activities outside the school. Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award has become increasingly popular in recent years along with charitable fundraising and other ways of serving the community. The school provides facilities for most field and track sports, as well as a PE center.
