Basic Information & Location
Badminton School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged between 3 and 18, and it has been rated as one of the top girl schools which is well-known for its excellent performance in science. The school is located in Bristol since 1924 and has been ranking high in the league tables, particularly excels in A-Level. Bristol, being far away from London, helps pupils to concentrate on study. Also, Bristol is safe with second highest per capita income across the country, There are about 25% of students in Badminton come from abroad. One of the famous alumni is the Indian first female Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
It is set within a safe and attractive campus of pleasant buildings and beautiful gardens in the university city of Bristol and has an enviable sense of community which is felt the moment you step inside the gates. Only 1.5 hours from Heathrow Airport, the School is easily accessible from London and is 30 minutes away from Bristol International Airport. Moreover, in order to ensure the safety of students, in the beginning and end of term, staff from school will accompany students to return to campus or airport.
Compared with other girl’ school likes Headington School and Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Badminton pays more attention to the manner education, and tries to educate girls to become an approachable and noble ladies. At the end of each term, all pupils will have “hand shake and farewell” ceremony with each teacher and staff. This tradition has been preserved to the present to offering students a chance to thank their teachers and faculties for the teaching and cares through the whole semester.
Academic Development
In 2008 the school was ranked third in the Financial Times top 1,000 schools. While the school maintains a nationally outstanding academic record, it pays additional efforts to nurture the girls’ natural curiosity and fuel their passion for learning. Badminton provides than 20 subjects in both GCSE (Mathematics, Drama, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature, Food and Nutrition, Sports, Art, Business, French, Spanish, Latin, Classical Literature, Religious Studies, ICT, Creative Arts, Geography, German, History, Music, Sports and Games), and A-Level courses (Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geography, Government and Politics, History, Art History, Latin, Mathematics, Advanced Mathematics and Statistics, Modern Language, Music and Music Technology, Photography, Physics, Religious Studies and Philosophy, Drama Research).
According to statistics in the past few years, there are about 85%-95% of graduates achieved A*-B in A-Level exam, and over 80% of students graduated with outstanding grade as A*-A. Each year, there are about 10% of graduates receiving offers from Oxford and Cambridge, and 95% of graduates progress to higher education after leaving school. Apart from the courses to help students get into top UK universities, Badminton also offers SAT courses for students who aspire to enter universities in the US, which is very rare in UK boarding schools.
Pastoral Care & Boarding
Students in Badminton have always had the comfortable living environment. There is a state-of-the-art, modern boarding house designed for students aged between 13 and 16 with excellent study and social facilities, and a homely Junior Boarding House for 9-12 years old. The dormitories are equipped with well-ventilated bedrooms, heaters, bathrooms, kitchens and shower rooms. Besides modern equipment, Badminton also appoints experienced wardens to take care of students’ daily lives.
Extracurricular & personal development
The first-class facilities are situated on site. There is an outstanding Creative Arts Centre, a fully equipped Science Centre and Music School with its own recording studio. 85% of the pupils are capable of playing at least one musical instrument, and they have been invited to perform in many local and international music festivals. Sports facilities in Badminton include an indoor swimming pool, AstroTurf pitch with international standards, seven tennis and netball courts, a gymnasium and fitness building.
