Student Visa

Since the visa application can be complicated, students should pay close attention or seek help from education consultants. After accepting offer from school, Britannia Team will assist students with HKSAR passport in visa application three months ahead departure.

International students living in the UK for more than 6 months must apply for Tier 4 student visa before their departures. Students aged between 4 and 17 can apply for Tier 4 (Child) student visa; students aged 16 or above can apply for Tier 4 (General) student visa. The Type of visa needed depends on category of courses and school and details can be found in the Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) issued by school. Application for Tier 4 (General) students visa requires IELTS results recognized by UKVI.

Students also have to provide results of the Tuberculosis Test and submit school fees for first semester. If student are not holding HKSAR passport or applying visa in Hong Kong, they are required to prove that they have sufficient funds for tuition fees and living expenses. If students are providing financial proofs of others (e.g. parents or guardians), they must submit birth certificates or other legal documents to verify their relationships. Proofs of sufficient funds must be cash deposit, loan certificates or subsidies from government. Bank statements must be issued one month before submitting the applications to show that related funds have been deposited for more than 28 days.

Students can apply for student visas at VFS Global Hong Kong. Application fee is approximately £335. As passports must be remained at the centre, students cannot go abroad during the application procedure.  An application with regular service generally takes two to five weeks to complete while an express service takes three days to two weeks. Generally, parents can choose to collect visas at the centre or have them delivered to their mailing addresses. However during peak season, most of the visas will be delivered to mailing addresses (with additional fee). To collect visas, please bring identification documents, receipts and collection notices.

(A)  Visa – About the Tuberculosis Test

Starting from January 2014, Hong Kong residents staying in the UK for more than 6 months (other than children aged under 11) must take the Tuberculosis Test in one of the five clinics assigned by UK Visa and Immigration. The result is valid for six months and students must ensure that it is valid on their day of departure, as they are required to show the certificate (or the photocopy) to immigration officers when they enter the UK.

Students must have the result of the test ready before applying for student visas. The report generally takes three to five working days to complete. Students are advised to take the test as early as possible. They must be accompanied by at least one of the parents when taking the test and collecting the result. When making an appointment, please state the tuberculosis test for the application for UK visas. For more information about the fees and required documents, please contact the following clinics:
